The appointment marks a new international phase for the historic scientific journal dedicated to cosmetology, dermatology and skin sciences, as the publisher continues to strengthen its scientific standards, global editorial network and international visibility.

The World Health Academy Publishing House is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Leonardo Mayorga Garibaldi as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Applied Cosmetology (JAC), effective September 2026.
The appointment represents an important step in the continuing development of a scientific journal with more than four decades of publishing history.
Founded in 1983, the Journal of Applied Cosmetology has established a long-standing presence in the fields of cosmetology, dermatology, skin and hair sciences, cosmetic ingredients and related biomedical disciplines.
Under the new leadership, the Journal will continue to build upon this scientific heritage while strengthening its international profile, interdisciplinary scope and editorial standards.

A new international leadership

As Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Leonardo Mayorga Garibaldi will provide scientific and editorial leadership to the Journal, working in close collaboration with its international Editorial Board and the editorial structure of the World Health Academy Publishing House.
His responsibilities will include contributing to the Journal's scientific direction, overseeing editorial standards and supporting the evaluation and development of scientific content.
The appointment is part of a broader strategy aimed at reinforcing the Journal's role as an international platform connecting cosmetology, dermatology, microbiology and biomedical research.
The new Editor-in-Chief formally accepted the appointment on September 23, 2026.

More than four decades of scientific publishing

The Journal of Applied Cosmetology was established in 1983 and carries ISSN 0392-8543 for its print edition and ISSN 2974-6140 for its online edition.
Over the years, the Journal has provided a scientific platform for researchers and professionals working across a broad range of disciplines related to the skin and cosmetic sciences.
Its readership and scientific community include dermatologists, cosmetic scientists, microbiologists, pharmacists, toxicologists, experimental biologists, plastic surgeons and researchers involved in the study of the skin, its appendages and cosmetic and dermatological applications.
This multidisciplinary identity remains central to the future development of JAC.

About Leonardo Mayorga Garibaldi
Leonardo Mayorga Garibaldi is a medical microbiologist with an academic and professional background in medical microbiology, infectious diseases, clinical diagnostics and biomedical research.
His scientific activity has included research in areas where microbiology and dermatology increasingly intersect, including cutaneous infectious diseases, mycobacterial infections and infections associated with aesthetic procedures.
His curriculum includes postgraduate training in medical microbiology and infectious diseases, as well as Master's and PhD-level academic qualifications.
He serves as CEO of the Unit for Diagnosis and Research in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases and, for the 2026–2028 period, as Vice President of the Mexican Association of Medical Mycology.
His international academic activities also include collaborations and teaching experiences related to infectious and dermatological diseases.
This background brings to the Journal a perspective that reflects the increasing convergence of dermatology, cosmetology, microbiology and translational biomedical sciences.

Cosmetology and dermatology in a changing scientific landscape
Cosmetic science has undergone a profound transformation since the Journal of Applied Cosmetology was founded more than forty years ago.
Today, research in this field increasingly involves disciplines such as microbiology, molecular biology, toxicology, pharmacology, skin barrier science and translational medicine.
The study of the skin microbiome, interactions between microorganisms and the epidermal barrier, the microbiological safety of cosmetic formulations and complications associated with aesthetic procedures are examples of areas in which traditional disciplinary boundaries are becoming progressively less defined.
For the World Health Academy Publishing House, this evolution requires scientific journals to maintain their established identity while remaining open to emerging fields of research.
The appointment of Dr. Mayorga Garibaldi reflects this vision.

Strengthening the Journal's international presence
Internationalization will be one of the priorities of the new editorial phase.
The Journal aims to expand collaboration with researchers, universities, hospitals and scientific institutions from different regions of the world and to encourage high-quality submissions from an increasingly diverse scientific community.
Dr. Mayorga Garibaldi's academic and professional connections with the Latin American and international medical communities provide an additional opportunity to strengthen dialogue between researchers across different geographical areas.
The Journal will continue to be supported by its international Editorial Board and by the editorial management of the World Health Academy Publishing House.

Scopus and future indexing development
The Journal of Applied Cosmetology is currently indexed in Scopus, an important component of its international scientific visibility.
At the same time, the World Health Academy Publishing House is working on the preparation of the Journal for a future application for inclusion in PubMed-related databases.
This process is separate from the Journal's current Scopus indexing and does not imply that inclusion has already been obtained or guaranteed.
The preparation process forms part of a broader editorial strategy focused on scientific quality, editorial transparency, international participation and the progressive strengthening of the Journal's publishing standards.

Milo Dolci: “A new chapter in the history of the Journal”
For the World Health Academy Publishing House, the appointment represents both continuity and renewal.
“With the appointment of Dr. Leonardo Mayorga Garibaldi, we are opening a new phase in the history of the Journal of Applied Cosmetology. We are speaking about a scientific journal with more than forty years of activity, and we intend to continue investing in scientific quality, internationalization and editorial strength. The new leadership represents an important step in this development.”
Milo DolciCEO, World Health Academy Publishing House
The Publishing House will continue to support the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board through its editorial infrastructure, including publication management, editorial coordination and administrative activities.

Building the future while preserving the Journal's scientific heritage
More than four decades after its foundation, the Journal of Applied Cosmetology is entering a new stage of its development.
The scientific environment of 2026 is profoundly different from that of 1983. Dermatology, cosmetic science, microbiology and biomedical research are increasingly interconnected, while scientific publishing itself is undergoing major changes in technology, international collaboration and standards of transparency.
The challenge for an established scientific journal is therefore twofold: to preserve the value of its history while continuing to evolve.

With Leonardo Mayorga Garibaldi as Editor-in-Chief, the World Health Academy Publishing House intends to pursue this objective by strengthening the Journal's scientific identity, international network and interdisciplinary approach.
The mission remains clear: to provide an international scientific platform for research at the intersection of cosmetology, dermatology, skin science and related biomedical disciplines.
